Media budgets can be increased. Attention can’t. Every message a brand sends is spent from an account the audience controls.

The instinct when a brand isn’t being noticed is to say more: more posts, more emails, more notifications, louder colours. It rarely works for long, because everyone else has the same instinct. The noise rises and the attention on offer stays exactly the same.

Asking for less

The brands we admire most do the opposite. They say fewer things, more clearly, and they make each one worth the moment it takes to read. They send the email only when there is something to say. They let silence do some of the work.

This isn’t minimalism as a style. It is respect as a strategy. When people learn that a brand won’t waste their time, they start giving it more of their attention voluntarily.

A simple test

Before anything goes out, we ask one question: would we be glad to receive this? If the honest answer is no, it isn’t ready, or it shouldn’t exist.
